The Art of Lori Escobar
Hello! The following paintings are featured in my show at the Winchester Goose entitled, Ascential Flux. It’s a play on words! Ascent/Essential a reference to staircases and shapes emerging from my art, fluctuating iconography and color studies.  Dreamlike characters partaking in the narrative of my mind. Read about them below. Or check out theflyer and  Show Bio here.
Each painting is framed with custom, handcrafted frames made with blood, sweat and tears by the amazing Steve Joiner of Red Bluff.
I'll never underestimate  framing again.
Along the lower back wall are 25  prints mounted on board. Last year I brought my paints along with me to my favorite Chico area water escapes and practiced landscape painting En Plein Air (outdoors). These were my favorites. Each print is $20. See them BELOW.

What to paint? I ask myself that all the time. I flip through my sketchbook—half the pages are filled with post-impressionistic cubism, like some subconscious habit. Shapes, shading, abstract faces, all coming together in a way that feels Picasso-esque.
Why not just paint them? I’ve done it before. My process usually starts with thumbnails—unfinished thoughts, doodles in margins, quick scribbles. There’s something about them. The initial energy already exists in the thumbnail: the idea, the layout, the feeling. I constantly thumbnail miniature pieces.
Eventually, I flip to a page and bring it to life. Not all of them hit, but painting an entire piece in one sitting and moving to the next, teaches me something about the shapes I like, the themes that keep showing up, the colors I instinctively mix. The feeling I get about perfection or the process. I am letting go of how it should be, what it could be, what i failed to do. What it has become in the end and appreciating the finality of the piece once framed.
Lately, I’ve leaned into staircases. I love photographing them, capturing their rhythm. Maybe it's because every day, I climb a huge staircase to get to my studio—an ascent that’s starting to define my process.
